CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Western Maine Rabbit Person of 2009

Western Maine R.B.A. has chosen Diane McLaughlin as open rabbit person of 2009. Diane has been a member of our club for several years, and has contributed a lot.

Diane grew up on a farm in Michigan, and always enjoyed animals.  She looked around her small lot in Sebago, Maine,  and knew she could not raise large animals, but she had the perfect place for rabbits.  She realized that this was a hobby the whole family could enjoy.  Her son had purchased a Californian buck, so she bought a doe, and they began to raise meat rabbits for their family.   Her husband also joined in, and they all became members of  our club.  Later on Diane got her first English Angora, and she was hooked.  She enjoyed spinning and knitting, now she could spin her own yarn.

Diane doesn’t show much, but usually attends all our shows.  She manages the food table, keeps the things organized, and greets all our exhibitors with a smile.

Diane has promoted rabbits in various places, often taking rabbits in to school and speaking with the children about their care.  She helps out at all our fair displays, putting on spinning demos at each of our displays last year.

At club meetings Diane can keep us all level headed.  Her many good ideas that have helped the club more than she even realizes.    She enjoys being with our members, sharing ideas, and common goals.

Diane and her family were willing to step in at the last minute to have our Club Christmas party at their home.  She did much of the cooking, managed to borrow enough tables and chairs to seat us all, and decorated nicely to make us all feel comfortable.

Diane might not be someone who gets noticed for the things she does.  She has a quiet, gentle way about her that gets things done without notice.  But we did notice this year,  and we feel Western Maine is very fortunate to have a member such as Diane McLaughlin.
